Terms of Use
The rules for using Local Agents, for both customers and the providers listed here.
Last updated
The most important thing to understand: Local Agents is a directory that helps you find providers. We are not a party to the work you agree with them, we do not perform it, and we do not guarantee it. Your contract is with the provider.
Who these terms are with
This site is operated by Local Agents New Zealand Limited (NZBN ). By using the site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.
What Local Agents does, and does not do
We do:
- List professionals and businesses so customers can find them by service and location.
- Pass your enquiry to the providers you select.
- Review every provider application and every review before it is published.
We do not:
- Perform any of the services listed, or supervise the people who do.
- Set prices, hold your money, or handle payment between you and a provider.
- Guarantee the quality, timeliness or legality of any work.
- Warrant that a provider holds a licence, registration or insurance. Where a trade requires one by law, ask to see it.
What "verified" means here
A verified badge means we have carried out a basic identity or business check. It is not a guarantee of competence, a warranty of workmanship, or confirmation that any trade licence is current. Always do your own checks for work that matters.
Using the site as a customer
- You may contact up to 5 providers with a single enquiry.
- Give accurate contact details, so providers can reply to you.
- Do not use enquiries to send advertising, recruit providers, or collect their details for any purpose other than the work you are actually asking about.
Listing as a provider
- Everything on your profile must be true. Claiming a qualification, licence or experience you do not have is a misleading representation under the Fair Trading Act 1986, and we will remove the listing.
- You must hold any licence or registration your trade legally requires.
- You are responsible for how you use the contact details of people who enquire.
- Only use those details to respond to the enquiry, not to add anyone to a mailing list.
We review every application before a listing goes live, and we may decline one. We will tell you why.
Suspension and removal
We may suspend or remove a listing if:
- The information on it is false or misleading.
- A required licence has lapsed or was never held.
- We receive substantiated complaints about conduct.
- Enquiry contact details are being misused.
We will tell you when this happens and give the reason, so you can put it right or dispute it. Your account and data are not deleted when a listing is suspended.
Reviews
- Reviews must describe genuine experience with the provider.
- Writing reviews of your own business, paying for reviews, or writing reviews of a competitor is prohibited and is also a breach of the Fair Trading Act.
- Nothing is published until a person has read it. We remove reviews that are abusive, or that identify a third party who did not consent.
- We do not remove a review simply because a provider dislikes it. Editing the record of honest customer experience is precisely what makes a review platform worthless.
Your rights under New Zealand law
Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986 where those Acts apply. Those rights apply to the provider you engage, in relation to the work they do for you.
Our liability
We provide this directory with reasonable care, but we do not accept liability for the acts, omissions, work or conduct of any provider listed here, or for loss arising from a transaction you enter into with one. Where liability cannot be excluded by law, it is not excluded by these terms.
Content you post
You keep ownership of what you write and upload. By posting it you allow us to display it on this site and in search results. Do not upload anything you do not have the right to use: photographs of work you did not do, or images you do not hold the rights to.
Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by New Zealand law, and the New Zealand courts have jurisdiction.
